Meet Tanjina
Tale of an Immigrant
I am a first-generation immigrant born in Bangladesh. My family and I relocated to Georgia from Bangladesh in 2003 in pursuit of a world-class education and an improved quality of life. Since that time, I have regarded Georgia as my home. My family encountered firsthand the difficulties associated with beginning afresh in Georgia. My life has been shaped by perseverance, as my mother worked in local service occupations and my father held clerical positions, all while instilling in us the robust values of diligence, education, and community solidarity. I’m blessed with parents who strove for their corner of the American Dream. My family inspired me to obtain higher education, for which I’m pursuing a Doctorate in Educational Leadership. I derive satisfaction from instructing children and motivating them to become exemplary citizens who make significant contributions to their community.
Discovering My True Path
In the early dawn of 2005, a period marked by a delicate balance between hope and adversity globally, I found myself at a pivotal juncture in my life. As an immigrant acclimating to the diverse and vibrant communities of Georgia, I was profoundly affected by the stark and often painful disparities influencing the lives of working families, immigrants, students, and individuals of color. It was within this crucible of challenge that my political consciousness was initially awakened. Over the years, my involvement deepened as I became active in local Democratic initiatives. Inspired by the belief that policy must reflect the humanity of those it serves, I committed myself to grassroots organizing for the Obama campaign. From registering first-time voters to advocating for language equity for immigrant communities, my journey became one of both personal and collective transformation.
Contribution to Georgia
I dedicated myself to supporting various Democratic candidates throughout Georgia, motivated by a firm conviction in promoting leaders who emphasize equity, inclusion, and community empowerment. My engagement was never motivated by titles or politics for their own sake; instead, it was focused on electing candidates who are genuinely attentive to the needs of the people and committed to fostering a Georgia that functions for all citizens. Through canvassing, organizing, and advocacy, I contributed to amplifying the voices of those traditionally marginalized, under the belief that effective leadership originates from candidates committed to compassion, accountability, and service. I actively participated at the grassroots level in transformative campaigns, notably the historic Biden-Harris presidential campaign and the pioneering election of Senator Jon Ossoff.
A Leader on the Ascendancy
My political journey did not commence in a campaign office or on a debate stage; it originated with a modest yet impactful act of advocating for justice, and in the decision to engage proactively as a student at a small college in North Georgia. From the subtle pain of marginalization, a resilient voice emerged—one that refused to remain silent. This voice, cultivated through my lived experience and rooted in compassion, now ascends in public service.
As Vice Chair of Membership for the Gwinnett County Democratic Party, a State Committee member of the Democratic Party of Georgia, and a proud 2024 DNC Delegate, I have transformed my passion into a purposeful commitment, introducing renewed energy, diverse perspectives, and inclusive leadership to the forefront of Georgia’s political movement.
In these roles, I worked diligently to facilitate opportunities for others, fostering connections across communities and encouraging civic engagement at all levels. My narrative embodies the triumph of overcoming adversity with dignity and transforming that achievement into a source of hope for others.
Our diverse differences do not divide us—they define our strength.
Together we are ONE Voice, One America!
